The Thrill of the Hunt

So I have always been a bargain hunter. Places like Ross, Marshalls, and Ebay appeal to me because I LOVE LOVE LOVE to find a good deal. I love to hunt through racks and compare prices and values. I am always so proud of an item that when someone compliments it, I feel compelled to tell them I got it for only $4 at Ross. Not too long ago, I hunted for my clothes, shoes, purses, and household items. But now, I have a new hunting license and it's for children's toys. I can't bring myself to pay $50 for a piece of shiny plastic that sings that Jack will only be interested in for a few months. So now I hunt at consignment sales. I haven't done the garage sale thing yet because, well I am lazy and there are other things I would rather do on Saturday mornings. But who needs garage sales when all the churches around here have huge children's consignment sales at the beginning of each season. I don't have to mess around with driving around neighborhoods looking for kid stuff, these sales only sale children's items in excellent or good condition. No weeding through junk here. Yes friends, it is official, my Fall/Winter hunting season has opened.

A friend and I, who has a baby boy named Jack a few months younger than my Jack, went to the first sale of the season and cleaned house. I was able to get 6, basically new toys, for $48, which probably would have retailed for about $250. I also got 2 winter coats and a Gymboree track suit, but those aren't as fun. After a date with my Clorox spray, these toys were good as new.

Here Jack is with his ginormous ball tower that plays crazy music - $8

His newest musical instrument - $2

A walker/push toy $8
Here he is trying to walk with it...look how short he looks!

And the best find of all, the Leap Frog Learn and Groove Table which retails for about $50 - I got it for $8, which is probably more than the batteries cost in this thing! He loves this it and has already learned how to pull up on it.

And this bug/spider thing I literally had in my basket at Target last week, but put it back because $25 seemed like a lot for it. Good thing I did, this was $2.

I also got a Little Tykes 4 foot basket ball hoop for when he gets a little bigger for a whopping $8.

And this little video below is a toy that he has had for a while. He has actually learned to play with it rather than watch me play with it, so I just had to show off his mad eye hand coordination skills.

Yes my house looks like a day care now with all of these toys, but at least I still have a little money in my pocket ;)

OMG!!! I can't believe that he is big/old enough to even know how to play with his toys like that! I am also trying to wrap my head around the fact that he will be WALKING soon. Look at him pull himself up! Nice job on the consignment sales. I love going to those to get Luke things becasue they have such good deals.

WOW! That is amazing! You cleaned up. I wish you were closer so we could do a toy swap with Jack.

Wow - very impressive!! I love a good bargain and I agree - why spend expensive money on something the kid with not be interested in - in a couple months. You are giving me so many great ideas for my own children one day. Love it!!! Other than that - how are things?

Great job Lisa! A girl after my own heart. You know Sterling's toyroom is stocked with items from "the hunt". Whenever I get to come visit (hopefully soon now that summer is over & work "training is over) we can go hunting together. I thought I got a good deal buying the Leap Frog table for only $15, but you beat me!
