I finally bit the bullet and shaved off Jack's luscious wavy locks.
Gasp!
*Please note the dirty face. It was a busy day in Jack's world. One that included lunch at 10am and using markers as body paint*
It was just getting too traumatic embarrassing to have other people cut his hair. He hates to have people he doesn't know touch him, which leads to all out public fits. He got so bad that he would say "ow" when you told him he was going to get his hair cut and he would start crying. Suckers, candy, and bribery of all sorts were no use. Which is odd, because all of those tricks use to work just fine. But not for this silly, weird and very particular almost 2 1/2 year old with exceedingly thick and fast growing hair. Sorry Bubba, frequent haircuts are going to be a thing of your future.
So I purchased my very own clipper set, complete with its own cape, put Jack on his step stool in the kitchen, gave him a bag of M&Ms, and started shaving off the most beautiful baby hair. Jack still cried but there was no kicking screaming or emotional scars for either of us. I will admit I was sad to see his hair go. So maybe I'm a little scarred.
The plan is to cut it short and just let it grow for awhile to space out the trauma. And maybe after me cutting it a few times he will have matured a little and we can return to a good old fashion scissor cut in a real place of business.
My hair cutting skills won't be winning any awards anytime soon, but that perfect smile and those amazing eyes might. Even through the mac and cheese crusted and magic marker face you can see his adorableness.
And what was under that mountain of hair?
This little boy.
